Date composed 1910
Details 1. Verbotene Liebe (Detlev von Lilienkron)

3. Ich schreite heim (Emil Rappaport, pseud. Emil Claar)
4. An Agnes (Nikolaus Lenau)
5. Abendgang zur Geliebten (Heinrich Hart)

Composed 1909–1910, according to composer's holograph works list of 1938, where Weigl listed this work under the title Fünf Gesänge für Tenor. He reused No. 5, Abendgang zur Geliebten, in his 1944 final revised version of Love Songs op. 22; for this work Weigl recomposed the song's last three lines and ending measures, and though here the Hart setting again appears as No. 5 (replacing the Goethe setting previously in this position) it now serves not as the final but as the penultimate song of the set.
Manuscript sources NYPL JPB 99-7 no. 36, holograph score (15 pages), with song titles written in another hand.
